The Jazz is Honda India’s latest offering. The premium hatchback in this new generation avatar delivers on the space and practicality front like its predecessor but crucially also offers a diesel engine and the promise of better pricing. The Honda Jazz will take on the likes of the Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo and Fiat Punto Evo in the premium hatchback segment.
The Jazz is a smartly styled car with all the cuts and creases along its body to look sportier than cars in this segment do. The front end looks inspired from the City, a car it is based on and one it shares a majority of its parts with but move to its side profile and the Jazz comes into its own, looking more like a mini- MPV than a hatchback. The unibody design makes it look that way but the space is evenly broken down with a strong character line along the sides. The rear is the sportiest bit of the car with the large roof spoiler and brilliantly detailed lights. The interior borrows heavily from the City, especially the dashboard and the front seats. The layout of the dashboard is particularly similar but gets a few Jazz touches like a cup holder near the right side air vent. The top variants get a touchscreen navigation system while the lower variants get a colour screen. The Jazz also gets a rear parking camera with the feed displayed on the screen.
Practicality is where the Jazz shines through. There are cubby holes and bottle holders all around the cabin and the boot is the largest in its segment at 354 litres. You can flip and fold the seats in the top end variant to get a colossal 881 litres of boot space, making it the most spacious hatchback in India. The Honda Jazz petrol is powered by the popular 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine also seen in the Brio and Amaze. Performance is right up there against its rivals as the 1.2 develops 90PS of power and 110Nm of torque and comes with the ARAI rated mileage of 18.7kmpl. The CVT equipped petrol variant returns ARAI fuel efficiency of 19kmpl. The diesel’s specifications are the 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine producing 100PS of power and 200Nm of torque. It is the second most fuel efficient hatchback in the country after the Celerio diesel with an ARAI rated mileage of 27.3kmpl. On the safety front, you get ABS and two airbags depending on the variant you choose.
Honda Jazz, a Hatchback has 12 versions available in India. Honda Jazz has 7 Petrol cars and 5 Diesel cars. Honda Jazz comes in 6 colours, namely, Alabaster Silver, Carnelian Red Pearl, Golden Brown, Sunset Orange, Taffeta white, Urban Titanium.
Honda’s Jazz is one of the most practical hatchbacks ever. The Japanese automaker has re-introduced the new Jazz in its new avatar. The new Jazz is based on the Honda City platform and it does share a lot of bits with the premium sedan. The Honda Jazz retains its practicality and flexibility with this generation as well. The new Jazz is powerful, spacious and feature loaded. It is offered with a 1.2-litre petrol engine and this time it has even been introduced with a 1.5-litre diesel engine as well. This makes the Jazz a great hatchback to procure in the premium hatch segment.
The Honda Jazz looks stylish and sporty. It has a similar front grille like the City, however the thick chrome is replaced by a black one to make it look sporty. The Honda Jazz comes with 15-inch alloy wheels, blacked out B and C pillars and turn indicators on the ORVMs. The glass area is large on the Jazz and this makes the cabin feel airy. The tail lamps are elongated and are LEDs, this makes it look stylish and trendy. The Jazz is made available in seven colours Tafeta White, Alabaster Silver, White Orchid P, Carnelian Red, Golden Brown M, Urban Titanium and Sunset Orange.
The interiors of the Honda Jazz are stylish and it have been borrowed from the Honda City. The Jazz comes with a touchscreen system that has satellite navigation, reverse parking camera and bluetooth connectivity. The Jazz even has keyless entry, push start and stop, dual airbags and ABS on the Jazz VX variant.
The Jazz’s strongest selling point is its space. This premium hatchback has good space in both the rows and even has a large boot as well. The new Jazz has spacious interiors and with Magic Seats there is more added flexibility as well. These Magic seats function in four modes, utility, tall, long and refresh.
Engine & Transmission
Honda is offering the Jazz with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that churns about 88bhp of power and 110Nm of peak torque. This engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission and even CVT. The Honda Jazz’s other engine is the 1.5-litre diesel one that churns about 98bhp of power and 200Nm of peak torque. This comes with a six-sped manual transmission.
Performance & Handling
The Honda Jazz’s diesel engine has the best performance. This engine churns about 98bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. The good bit about this engine isn’t just its outright performance, but even when in city it is very easy and convenient to drive. The Honda Jazz’s petrol engine also is easy to drive however it doesn’t get the punch like the diesel engine. The Jazz is nimble and it takes corners with ease. The light steering wheel is the only downside if any.
The Honda Jazz comes with front disc brakes, while the rear are drums. The top-of-the-line model comes with ABs with EBD. This helps to stop the car in control making it easier to stop.
The Honda Jazz comes with dual airbags, ABS with EBD as well. This premium hatchback even gets driver seatbelt warning, seat belts for all five passengers, reverse parking camera, key reminder. The competition are offering dual airbags as a standard, while Honda is still to do that.
The Honda Jazz is one of the most practical premium hatchbacks. The flexibility that this hatchback offers is unique to this vehicle itself. The new Jazz is feature loaded and one of the best in its segment.
The Honda Jazz competes with the Hyundai Elite i20 and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. These are the direct rivals to the Jazz but the Volkswagen Polo and Fiat Punto Evo also come under the same price bracket.
